We had the opportunity to host our first annual Beautiful Nightmare Dance Party last week in the incredible venue, The Bar Complex, in Lexington, KY, which boasts a mirror-paneled and pillared ballroom and a mesmerizing light display that was installed by the same company that put in the light displays for the infamous Studio 54. Born to Game: Day 3 of Gen Con 2015 [ARTICLE/EVENT]
After misjudging the best way to enter the vendor area the day before, I corrected my approach, skirted the convention center, and came in the opposite entrance, allowing me to make my way through the even more crowded vendor area with a minimum of “pardon me”/”excuse me” dances in the process. Arriving in Paizos’ Pathfinder pavilion was really cool, because it shows how just much a creative indie manufacturer could become a major power player with its Roleplaying system in just 7 years. It may have been based on D&D’s 3.5 open license mechanics when it was released in 2008…
Born to Game: Day 2 of Gen Con 2015 [ARTICLE/EVENT]
Chatting with Ben Loomes was refreshing, as his desire for improving the storytelling landscape around him was one I could totally understand. As a roleplayer himself, he found real world campaigns lacked the auditory elements found in video games and set about to change that. Using a complex sample based program (so that every type of sound can have random components) with reverb options (so you can have sounds happening in different qualitative environments, from open plains to confined caverns), he created a series of sound effects and music scores that can be triggered by your smartphone

Gen Con has the distinction of being the largest table top gaming Convention in North America, with a focus on board games, pen-and-paper, card games, and anything related to games that are not primarily played in the digital realm. Nemisis vs. Frostbite: Modeling in Extreme Weather [ARTICLE]
One of the most popular questions I hear after posting a new outdoor wintertime shot on social media is “How do you stay warm outside like that?” Quick answer to that is simply put: I definitely do not.

Finding a Path through the Darkness: A Gen Con Look at Paizo’s Creepy New Releases [EVENT/ARTICLE]
Paizo is one of those companies that shows just how a creative manufacturer can go from a smaller Indie game expansion company to a major power player in just 7 years. The now iconic Pathfinder roleplaying system may have been based on D&D’s 3.5 Open Gaming License mechanics when it was released in 2008, but it has steadily evolved since then, at times passing D&D in sales, and spinning off a catalog of expansions, classes, maps, and figurines, to say nothing of the successful card game variation that debuted…
Souls and Crows: Haunting The Tower of London [ARTICLE]
The Tower of London is a very old building dating back to 1000, strongly backed by William the Conqueror. It’s not a single “tower”, in fact it is a very large complex consisting of 21 different towers and various buildings that over the years have served as a royal residence, fortress and prison. The tower was the place of many atrocities and torture, renowned for the diabolical instruments developed within it.
