Stoneburner is a tribal electronica project by Steve Archer of Ego Likeness. Since its formation in 2012 he has multiple releases including The Agony Box, the Fire and Ice EP, and Osafa Chram. His latest release, Technology Implies Belligerence, is sure to be no disappointment to those who were fans of the previous ones.
Theme
This was my first time listening to Stoneburner, so I had no idea what to expect from the start. All I knew was that it was a side project of Archer’s, and it was described to me as “tribal experimental electronica.” So the description alone caught my interest. And let me say, with the opening track (“Apocalypse Ennui”) I was already blown away. The tribal influence is pretty heavy and the chanting (sounds Eastern, forgive me if I’m wrong) is beautiful!
As you go through the album some songs have more of an electronica/industrial feel and the tribal influence is dialed down a bit. “The Angel of Abscess” and “One By One We Glitter And Disappear” are two of my favorite songs. Some of this album will definitely be a part of my playlist when I’m DJing.
Presentation
The mixing and mastering on this album is great. There’s a lot going on in each track but it doesn’t overload you, and each time you listen to a song you may focus on a different part than before so listening doesn’t get old.
Gothic Fit
I’ve yet to meet any Goths who don’t like Ego Likeness. Stoneburner is definitely different, but I think Ego Likeness fans would also enjoy it just as much, if not more! This album is a great choice for a Gothic dance night at a club, as it’s very danceable and dark and experimental enough to have everyone’s spirits hypnotized by the music.
Closing Thoughts
Into electronica? Into tribal? Why not knock em both out at the same time with this amazing Stoneburner album?! Technology Implies Belligerence delivers an awesome atmosphere with some very moving music and beats.

License that music in a haunted house with strobe lights and spooks that jump outta every crack n’ crevice with chainsaws and masked murderers with sparky electro prods and you got yourself a nice lil’ royalty check!
