It’s not everyday you get the golden opportunity to attend an Eli Roth event! Any of you die hard “Hostel” fans like myself would be thrilled just to be there. So climbing out of my winter “Cabin Fever,” I decided to stroll on over for a night on the town. Located right in the heart of Hollywood’s historic area is a legacy in itself, The Record Parlour.
Fiverr, a place where you can find a haven of exquisite people for your business partnerships and projects, put on the event. They hosted an exquisite party with fabulous hors d’oeuvres that included delicacies like sliders, ahi tuna on crispy rice, stuffed mushrooms, sushi rolls, and chicken appetizers along with a full complimentary wine, beer, and soda bar. The place was decorated with classic horror movies posters, a Black Sabbath framed photo, several nostalgic games in a creepy carnival type vibe, a big gramophone, and more. They gave us a gift bag with a notebook and a thermos to take home which was a nice addition.
Here are a few highlighted pointers: 1) As his business ally and mentor Quentin Tarantino expressed, “There will be all kinds of egos and drama dealing with those egos…keep your eye on the donut, don’t look at the hole.” In other words, keep your eye focused on the project and don’t get sucked into the drama. 2) Eli also went on to say that he did some of his best writing while driving. His road rage sparked the creativity to cleverly come up with new scenes on how to kill someone. All I can say is, “Eli, you picked the right town to induce road rage!” Anyone that drives in Los Angeles is aware of this fact. Not to get off the subject but to tie in, Alice Cooper once said about being on stage in his formative years, “All I knew was to keep moving. I didn’t know exactly what I was doing…All I knew was to keep moving.” Eli also states he will not sit at a computer and say “I’m going to write this script.” He claims that inspiration comes from getting out there in life instead of being huddled up at a desk. 3) Eli mentioned to prioritize your projects. You could sell the things that aren’t as important to help finance the things that are of importance or you could sell them out to keep a roof over your head while you are working on your new obsession. 4) He mentions financing projects through “credit”. He also mentions that you may find a backer, however, there may be strings attached and those strings are not the direction you choose to go, and that from his experience he decided to finance his projects through credit. 5) He states that he sometimes uses a phone recorder to get into a character that he is creating. He also claimed that actor Brad Pitt uses the same technique. 6) He mentions consistency. Getting into the habit of just doing it everyday in your daily routine is what it takes. He goes on to mention body builders. They are at the gym and they just keep working it and working it and working it until one day they look in the mirror and realize that they have achieved their goal.
