Annual conventions, monthly festivals or the occasional museum or art gallery; Florida seems to have it all. But where can all us beautiful dark clad or aberrant yet fun people go to enjoy more of this? Try MEGACON (short for Mega Convention)!! This annual, multi-genre convention, filled with over 45,000-50,000 con-goers occurs between late February to early March and is held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA.
Though Orlando is nothing new to me, it was my first year attending Megacon and I was quite amazed as to how grand, lively and spectacular the whole event really was. There’s so much to take in you’re about to explode with all that giddy excitement trying to figure out what to do first or what to see!
From the grand hallways filled with great and not so great cosplayers, to the “professional†cosplayers and photographers, Megacon did not disappoint! And what’s more was the enormous exhibition room where all the vendors, tattoo artists, actors and many other people were located at. It’s amazing!
When they say multi-genre, they MEAN multi-genre. This convention seems to have it all when it comes to vendors especially. This year, without my knowledge the most talented artist -if I do say so myself- Jasmine Becket-Griffith was there in here stand (booth, however you wish to call it) and was selling her beautiful art works and having them on display. I was in awe of their delicate, yet intricate beauty, not to mention surrounded by inspiration at every corner. I just had to shoot some photos of this for you, to show you what you’re missing out on.
But aside from vendors and art, there’s even tattoo stands or make-shit parlors. Now you know where you come and have yourself a tattoo done at a convention out in the open for everyone to see. And yes, their done by the pro’s. Who else would it be?!
The con-goers, what can I say.. they were GREAT! Hahah, no pun intended there, but they were marvelous and you can totally tell when they actually put in the effort to dress up or not. Of course, even the best sometimes have a bit of an antsy attitude about them, but it’s when their in a rush.
Towards the end (and beginning of the con) we were even taken photos of as a group!
It was fruitful, active and lots of fun attending Megacon; although there was one disappointment -yes that’s right- they DID NOT have any pocky or ramune to sell. If there was a downer, that would be it. I can only hope that Megacon 2014 will be more invigorating and just as exciting as 2013′s Megacon.
